DAW for GQ: True Blood on Halloween
Date: October 31, 2011 Author: Luciana Category: Interviews
Best known as sulky, slump-shouldered Jessica in True Blood (default posture: “Being a vampire sucks!”), in the flesh Deborah Ann Woll is smart, funny and drop-undead gorgeous. Alas, most of our slack-jawed conversation in London’s Soho Hotel today is PR-superinjunctioned until next year when season four comes out on Blu-ray and DVD. But given that the interview was taking place on Halloween, we felt it only appropriate to share a few seasonal tricks and treats on the subject of what to dress up as, Ghoul-gling herself and the best outfit she’s seen at Comic-Con…
GQ.com: Joe Manganiello told us that working on True Blood was “like being a kid on Halloween every day”. Is that accurate?
Deborah Ann Woll: Less candy, but just as much blood probably. I love it. I would go on set every day if they let me. But I’d probably just get in the way.
Do you see many people dressed up as Jessica for Halloween?
I do! People often will send pictures of their Jessica costumes to the Facebook fan page that we run. They do a good job. A lot of people are dying their hair – go redheads! It’s interesting too to see that they pick. Some will do the Merlotte’s waitress uniform, a lot will do the yellow dress from season two and this year we got one of a girl who wore this great plaid shirt over a little bustier from season four. You’ll see…
Do you know you’ve made it when you’re inspiring Halloween costumes?
I guess so. I sort of knew I’d made it when Google stopped autocorrecting my name. It used to change “Woll” into “Wool”. Suddenly, one day Google recognised me and I knew everything was good.

‘I got into acting for the art of it and if people decide that my body is not good enough to be on film, I’ll go back to theatre’ – Deborah Ann Woll. Photo / SuppliedAs True Blood’s resident redhead teenage vampire, Jessica Hamby sure has packed a lot into her short afterlife. But Deborah Ann Woll says her character is just getting started.
“Oh, God, everything happens to Jess in this season,” the 26-year-old Woll, says, enthusiastically. “Her story is a coming-of-age transformation from girl to woman/human to vampire. She’s struggling with who she is personally and starting to embrace the vampire side of herself.”
In contrast to most of the vampires, Jessica is endowed with feelings of empathy and remorse. Click here to read more »

Deborah Ann Woll on Vampire Tears, Jason Stackhouse, and Her Real-Life Teen Rebellion
Date: August 4, 2011 Author: Luciana Category: Interviews, True Blood
Deborah did a nice interview to Vulture, basically about True Blood, which you can read below:
At the tender age of 17, True Blood’s quasi-innocent vampire Jessica Hamby has studied up on carnal knowledge, killed a horny trucker, and attacked her boyfriend’s mom. But this works out just fine for Deborah Ann Woll, the actress who plays her, who gets to live out all her unfulfilled adolescent angst. Vulture phoned Woll for more details on her character’s season-four exploits, then got to the bottom of other pressing matters, such as her favorite flavor of blood and her policy on biting folks for a photo op.
Part of being a vampire is being loyal to your maker. How would you defend your character’s maker, Bill Compton, who’s become a jerky politician?
He’s under incredible pressure. And he has some incredibly powerful people making decisions for him. I think Bill is as disappointed with that as we are. Bill is really alone now. He doesn’t have a family except Jess, and I think it’s really wonderful that this season they get to [bond] quite a bit. Because things aren’t going so great with [her human boyfriend] Hoyt, [Bill] is all that she has.

Comic-Con panel: True Blood,Friday, July 22, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Ballroom 20
THR: What panel would you stand in line all day for?
Woll: RiffTrax with Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett. I own so many movies that I’m ashamed I own specifically because I have a RiffTrax that goes with them. They always do a panel with a live RiffTrax. Last year, we had our True Blood panel and the RiffTrax panel was right afterward. I dashed offstage, went backstage and changed into my Hit-Girl outfit, stuffed my designer dress in a duffle bag and ran to their panel.

LA Interview: Bela Lugosi was the first sexy vampire
Date: June 21, 2011 Author: Luciana Category: Interviews
Deborah recently spoke to LA Times about the upside of portraying an impulsive young woman struggling to find herself — who just happens to have a taste for human blood — and what fans can expect from the striking redhead in the series’ upcoming fourth season, which begins June 26. Check the interview:
GM: What can you reveal about Jessica’s story arc in Season 4?
DAW: It’s always very important to me that Jessica end up in a different place at the end of the season than where she started. In some ways writers do that obviously — they’re creating plot for you. But just in myself and the way Jessica might have reacted to a scene last year, if a similar situation comes up this year, I try to think, ‘Well how would she have shifted in her approach toward this a little bit?’ Even though Jessica’s still 17, time has gone by, so there’s a maturity coming about but even out of that, Jessica’s searching for something, she’s searching for herself and she’s going to make some mistakes along the way. I think audiences will love Season 4. I’ve really enjoyed reading all of our scripts this year. As you’ve seen in some of the teasers, it’s very political. All of the vampires are motivating to improve their self-image. That will be a fun way to see this season, I think.

DEBORAH ANN WOLL VAMPS IT UP ON ‘TRUE BLOOD’ – SEASON THREE
The actress talks about fangs, blood, flying rigs, her favorite scenes and baby vamp Jessica’s changing attitude
By ABBIE BERNSTEIN, Contributing Writer
You won’t find the character of Jessica Hamby in Charlaine Harris’ Southern Vampire books, but ever since Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) was forced by vampire law to make the erstwhile fundamentalist Christian teenager into a bloodsucker (to replace a fellow vamp that he’d killed), the red-haired “baby vamp” has been all over TRUE BLOOD, alternating between brattiness, bewilderment and moments of startling compassion and sweetness. Deborah Ann Woll, the actress who has brought Jessica to such memorable unlife, is at the West Hollywood studio where much of TRUE BLOOD films for a table read of an upcoming episode. Before heading out, she takes time to talk to IF about where Jessica has been and where she may be going.
