Brett Ratner may be out as Oscar producer, but he’s still making deals: Anchor Bay Films has acquired the horror film “Mother’s Day,” which Ratner and Richard Saperstein produced with Jay Stern, Brian Witten, Jessie Rusu, Curtis Leopardo and Shara Kay.

Darren Lynn Bousman directs what Anchor Bay describes as a loose remake of the original Troma film of the same name directed by Charles Kaufman. Rebecca DeMornay, Jamie King, Deborah Ann Woll and Shawn Ashmore star.

Anchor Bay made the announcement Wednesday, the final day of the American Film Market — and a day after Ratner exited as producer of the Academy Awards over the use of an anti-gay slur during a screening of “Tower Heist” last week.

“Mother’s Day” centers on a bank robbery gone wrong with three brothers heading for home, only to discover that their mother lost the house in a foreclosure. The new owners and their guests, gathered for an ill-timed birthday party, become the brothers’ unwitting hostages.

Deal was negotiated by Josh Thomashow and Kevin Kasha for Anchor Bay Films and Ben Weiss from Paradigm for the film.

Following a disastrous bank robbery attempt that leaves one of their number critically wounded, three brothers head for their childhood home to take refuge until the dust settles.

What they don’t know is their mother (De Mornay) recently lost possession of the house in a foreclosure and no longer lives there. Instead, they stumble across the new owners, a young couple, and their guests who are in the middle of birthday celebration.

Seeing no alternative, the brothers take the partygoers hostage before contacting their mother to explain their dilemma.

Willing to do anything to protect her offspring, mother arrives at the scene, along with her only daughter (Woll), and immediately takes control of the situation while masterminding a plan to help her family escape across the border from the US into Canada.

Unfortunately for the hostages, mother’s plot requires some serious funding and she’s determined to get hold of it any way she can. So begins a long night of psychological terror in which loyalties are tested, secrets are revealed and sins are punished by a deeply disturbed woman with maternal instincts that can only be described as murderous.

Produced by Brett Ratner (the Rush Hour trilogy; X-Men: The Last Stand; Red Dragon), directed by Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II, III and IV) and starring De Mornay, Jaime King, Deborah Ann Woll, Briana Evigan and Shawn Ashmore.

Mother’s Day is out on DVD & Blu-Ray 24th October

Mother’s Day isn’t open on USA yet, but you’re from UK you already can watch the movie. I was able to get a copy of the movie and did some screencaptures of Deborah’s part. Let’s hope the movie can be released, so I can do proper screencaptures in better quality for you.

Deborah Ann Woll’s new film “Mother’s Day” is hitting UK cinemas on June 10, and a brand new poster has debuted in anticipation.

The theater release date for the film is still not available for the US, but it was shown in the US at the Fantastic Fest last September. Mother’s Day stars Rebecca De Mornay as the matriarch of three criminals who take a housewarming party hostage.
